Computer dust bunnies

Dust can really be a computers worst nightmare because it can impair its ability to cool itself down. It is important that your computer is allowed to "breathe". A physical cleaning should be done fairly often to make sure that dust is not getting into the sensitive parts of the computer. Sometimes items like fans need to be replaced and they are fairly inexpensive. If your computer is in a cabinet, be sure it has adequate ventilation.

Back pack for your files

Did you know that there is a device that allows you to easily share files like pictures, documents and music? They are called USB Flash Drives and they are very simple to use. Simply plug one into your computer, drag and drop the files you want to share and then eject the flash drive. Then bring the flash drive to a friend's house. Plug it in there, then drag and drop the files onto their computer. You can also leave the files on the flash drive if you only wish to show them. Think of your flash drive as a back pack for your files!

Shortcut to an open window

There are some very easy to use commands on the keyboard that allow you to do some things quicker than with the mouse. If you have multiple windows open and would like to go from one program to another, this can be done with an easy keystroke. Simply hold down the 'alt' key (just to the right of the space bar) and press the 'tab' key. It will bring up the "alt-tab Menu". Here, if you press tab again, you can choose which window you would like to come to the front.

Uses for spare hard drives

Maybe you upgraded your hard drive or have a hard drive from an old computer. What should you do with it? If the drive is still good, put it to use! Are you running out of storage space on your computer? Would you like to have a separate drive just for your photos or music? That spare hard drive can be put to use for these or many other reasons. If you don't have any plans for that spare drive, it's best to have the data destructed so no one can access private information that may still be resident on the drive.
